EVENING RITUAL | DRY BRUSHING, OILS & MORE OILS
As a full-time yoga teacher, my days are filled with so much joy helping people, guiding people, and sharing a deeply rooted practice with the amazing people who take my classes. With so much output to my yoga community, how do I self-care, soften, and recharge? Here is my evening ritual for winding down and reconnecting to myself.
BATH TIME is very important to me. Anytime I find myself overwhelmed, I fill up the tub, load it with oils, and soak out the stress. I crave the weightless feeling throughout the day so much I made this a regular thing for myself. It brings me a sense of freedom and release, and I feel like a new person. My bath time consists of dry brushing, essential oils, and moisturizing to relax the body and mind. A little self-love goes a long way and can be almost meditative.
3 Simple Steps
DRY BRUSHING is the first step for a successful bath time in my opinion. Just as you would wash your face with a Clearsonic, or another type of face brush, to get the dirt off (if you don't do this then you should), dry brushing is the same idea, but for your body. It exfoliates and detoxes the skin, removes dead skin cells, and helps the skin to absorb oils and moisture better for more even and hydrated skin. The brush that I like to use is the Aromatherapy Associates Polishing Body Brush.
ESSENTIAL OILS are a huge part of my daily rituals & regimens and support me in so many ways with my health. I am an advocate for dōTERR, love the stuff, but I recently came across Vitruvi, and now I might be their biggest fan!
I decided to buy The Essentials Bundle and The Self-Care Bundle. I loved the packaging and bottles just as much as the product. Evan says I am a marketers dream, but honestly, if the products are good, I will tell everyone, and be a very loyal customer. They have a gentle sweetness to them that is cozy and comforting. Plus, they actually smell like they should. Sometimes essential oils can smell musty, earthwormy, and have no smell of what the oil is at all. Vitruvi actually smells like what the oil is. Their Lavender is perfectly floral, their bergamot is an invigorating citrus, and their Eucalyptus is so rich with menthol that my bathroom becomes like my own mini spa. Vitruvi oils are truly amazing, and the smells are spot on. As for my bath time, I like to use Bergamot, Lavender, and even sometimes Ylang Ylang, to help ease anxiety, tension, and calm the mind. All three are simultaneously invigorating and soothing to help me decompress from my day. I really can't take a bath without them and it is just so basic. On top of the dry brushing, using oils is another way to maintain moisture, encourage circulation, and help support your sense of calm as you soak them all in.
Try 8-10 drops of each and soak for 10-15 minutes.
MOISTURIZING after a bath is key to supporting the dry brush and essential oil ritual. This allows you to lock everything in and keeps the skin soft and supple. I like to lather on the True Botanicals Body Oil right after. My skin drinks it up and it makes it look glowing and hydrated. Also, to target more stressed out areas like shoulders and low back, I take a scoop of Sun Potion's Shea Butter and add 3-5 drops of Vitruvi's Eucalyptus, and apply it to those areas for extra relief. The menthol in the Eucalyptus oil is so yummy and perfectly intense that it feels like I had a mini massage. Such a great after shower combo and I feel fresh and new.
